Occupational Health: Key Benefits of Workplace Health Management

Economic growth has been fundamental to the general improvement in health in the industrial world during the last century. Health gain was achieved within a process of building up social capital and also as a result of increasing investment in improving the working environment, housing, nutrition, education, and health care and by addressing the other needs of the whole population. Economic development has also recently been associated with increased investments to reduce or eliminate pollution of different environmental byproducts.

The average age of the work force is increasing very rapidly. With the current disability pension systems, a major proportion of the aged work force will leave working life, and this trend will inevitably bring higher rates of long-term unemployment amongst the elderly work force.

There is a need for a major reconsideration of the social policy and social insurance policy, with an investment in protecting and promoting the working ability of the economically active working population. The current trends will otherwise lead to considerable problems in financing social security systems and maintaining the important safety net that they provide. This will require changes to the social security systems which include systems of incentives that reward active participation in working life and early return to work following any period of illness or infirmity. The active participation of employers, and their occupational health services, will be required to achieve these goals. Occupational health advisors are well placed to initiate, support and evaluate interventions which can be used to promote early, safe and successful rehabilitation programs at the workplace. Investment in protection and promotion of health, may not only support the wellbeing of the individual, but can be justified on purely economic grounds.

The companies that comply with national policies in public health, health and safety, workplace health promotion and environmental health management, as part of a comprehensive workplace health management system can expect to reap some or all of the following benefits.

  • Increased proportion of society with healthy lifestyle
  • Increased equity in health between different professions and economic sectors

Social and wellbeing benefits

  • Improved social image of company
  • Improved self-esteem of employees
  • Increased quality of working life
  • Improved compliance with existing legislation
  • Increased employment opportunities for people with slight work disability due to chronic diseases or injures
  • Increased participation of employees in organization of their own work
  • Increased awareness of society on social, environmental, occupational and lifestyle health and wellbeing factors
  • Increased knowledge on effective use on natural resources
  • Increased professional skills of employees
  • Increased managerial skills of employees
  • Increased ability of employees to cope with demands of working life
  • Increased knowledge of employees on legal requirements and their rationale concerning health and safety at work and environment management of the company.
  • Increased employability
  • Increased potential for social justice
  • Increased awareness of characteristics and social value of good management

Environmental benefits

  • Increased efficiency in using natural recourses
  • Increased number of companies with improved pollution prevention mechanisms and reduced wastes.
  • Increased number of companies managing environmental issue in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Increased number of companies managing environmental issue using principles and methods of such strategies as Cleaner Production, Eco-efficiency, Green Productivity, and Pollution Prevention.

Occupational health advisors, working independently or as part of a multi-professional occupational health service can make a significant contribution to the achievement of these goals. As occupational health advisors are the single largest group of healthcare professionals involved in delivering occupational health services, their active participation in and support of Workplace Health Management is essential if this national strategy is to succeed.

Health Challenges and Organizing Yourself and Space

Mental, Emotional, Physical Wellness versus Mental, Emotional, Physical Illness is a positive way to talk about Mental Health Challenges. I also like to talk about the difference between mental health vs. emotional health vs. physical health because they all work together. Emotional Health is all about feelings, feeling balanced and whole, being happy and satisfied with life, and having a good mood. Mental Health is all about how your mind, thoughts and cognitive processes are working. Physical Health is all about how your body is operating and staying healthy and balanced.

The separation of Mental, Emotional illness vs. Physical illness has always confused me. Why are brain (mental health/emotional issues and physical health issues split into two categories? Psychiatry which started in the 1800’s stated that it was the “medical” treatment for “the mind”. Why didn’t medical treatment for the whole person, mind, body and spirit ensue? Isn’t your brain and your emotional self part of your body? I would think so.

At some point in the early 1800’s when Psychiatry, a new field started, anything to do with depression, psychosis, “odd or strange” behavior, personality traits, and communications started to fall under Psychiatry instead of going to the old family doctor. Many of these “odd or strange” behaviors may have been caused by Medical issues, childhood issues, trauma etc… but the person would be treated by a Mental Health Specialist or Psychiatrist versus a “regular doctor”. That may be when stigma increased and terms like “nervous breakdown”, “crazy”, “mental patient” and any other negative connotations about mental health challenges started growing and upsetting the actual care necessary for mental health. The other problem with the separation between medical and mental health care is that many mental and emotional health challenges have an organic and or medical cause, and that often was overlooked by Psychiatrists who wanted to find an emotional and or personal weakness as the cause. Many people die from having a Psychiatric diagnosis take over their treatment, when in fact the mental and emotional health issues were from a physical disorder. The ideal situation if one is having mental/emotional health issues is to have a Psychiatrist and a Physical Health Practitioner on one team. Often there is NO communication between the two disciplines causing lengthy and unsuccessful results.

Most people, though, who suffer from emotional, mental and or physical health challenges also may become disorganized, and have difficulty with motivation to clean and keep things organized. Emotional illness comes from having the mental state disrupted. Emotional illness can be from having the physical state disrupted. Sometimes emotional, mental and physical disruption is happening all at once, and then your self and space will be tremendously affected. Finding a team approach to help you get back to WELLNESS may be helpful, and put you back on track, so to speak, and on the fast train to recovery. Looking at old memories of hurt and pain, facing them and talking to a Licensed Therapist, examining your diet, exercise, addressing physical health issues, staying on a good medical/mental health regimen, and pulling all of your support and resources together is essential to recovery.

Finding out the source of why there is an emotional factor (negative and harsh feelings) would be the first step in addressing any self or space imbalance. Once you find out the source then the treatment can be organized so you can get organized and resume a balanced self and space.

If you are experiencing any mental, emotional and or physical issues, and you realize you want or require help, contact your insurance carrier and or any community resources in your area to address these issues immediately. You may want to contact a mental health consultant and or coach for guidance and resource coordination.

www.southocwellness.com can help you navigate yourself to to health management. Waiting to focus on your mental and medical health issues may only extend your suffering of your self and space.

What Is Health Now?

The question in the title is a very important one, and I think all of us should have this question in mind and search for a complete answer. The truth is though, that we only ask about health when we have a serious problem. A official definition of health is given by The World Health Organization who defined health in its broader sense in 1946 as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. For 1946 it was not a bad definition, but let’s face it, times have changed and life has evolved since then, so today we have 2 new aspects of health to consider: emotional health and spiritual health. If we take a step back and try to see the “big picture” we realize that each aspect of health influences the other aspects, for example if someone has an emotional problem it will cause physical problems, spiritual problems, mental problems and social problems too, so it’s very important to solve the problem when we first see it even if we don’t think that an emotional problem is important. In the incipient phase the emotional problem could be solved by simply talking to a friend, but if we let it develop it could need serious professional help. After this example I think you will want to know more about each aspect of health, so let’s see what they mean and how can we improve them.

Physical health – the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about perfect physical health are babies – they are the best example because they run all around the place and use their energy until they fall asleep. If we could do the same, I’m sure we would have a better physical health. A definition of physical health would be that it is a state in which all of the organs are functioning well 100% of the time, so in order for that to happen we have to give our body good nutrients, good exercise and enough rest. It may sound too simple, but it shouldn’t be more complicated than this.

Mental health – one good example for this is inventor Thomas Alva Edison, he tried and failed more thousand times to invent the light bulb, but he was strong enough mentally not to give up, and he eventually succeeded. Mental health is a state of well-being that allows you to reach your true potential and contribute to the community. It may seem strange for some of you, but actually helping others is the greatest thing that we can do and it keeps us happy and healthy, so in order to improve your mental health start by helping the people around you, I can tell you for sure that you will feel very good by doing so.

Emotional health – imagine a little girl on a Christmas evening opening her presents, that for me is an example of good emotional health, because gratitude and happiness are the healthiest emotions for us. I think emotional health is about feeling good, grateful, happy and not being afraid to share these emotions with all the people we interact with. A good way to improve our social health is by doing both physical and mental exercises that we like to do, for example if you like to play tennis and chess, please do so as often as you can.

Social health – the best indicator for social health is the ability to make friends. The social aspect of health is very important, because we are social beings and it’s scientifically proven that if someone is ill and their loved ones are with them, they recover faster than if they were to stay alone. A tip on how to improve your social health would be to understand the fact that “it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice”.

Spiritual health – is the most important aspect of health from my perspective because it influences all aspects of our health and often it is neglected. We have to take care of our soul as well as we take care of our physical body and the best way to do this is by meditation. Please don’t be scared if you don’t know what meditation is or how you can do it, because it’s a lot easier than you think, in fact you don’t have to do anything, just stay still and silent. If you can remain still and silent for 15 minutes a day and gradually increase this interval to an hour a day, it will have a great influence on your spiritual health and on your overall health too.

By now I am confident that the question: What is health? is no longer a difficult one for you. Thank you for reading this article, and please try to improve each aspect of your health now that you know how to do it.

How to Achieve Better Health

Now that we are in the 21st century, more people’s focus has shifted to improving their health. Health is important because ones health determines how long you will live and what type of quality your life will have. Health is determined by diet, physical fitness, happiness, stress levels, choices and genetics. Genetics is the only part of health that cannot be changed. The rest of the factors determine what type of health one will have. However, no matter what ones present health is, there is always a way you can improve upon it. Poor health is a result of ones lifestyle, it occurs overtime. It takes years of eating unhealthy food, breathing in unclean air, not exercising, stressful situations and unhappiness to acquire poor health. But you can get better health by changing these bad aspects of your life. Even the smallest step in the right direction can improve your health significantly. It’s your life; this is how you will achieve better health.

Healthy Eating- Food is a main part of everyone’s life, because it’s necessary to sustain life. As technology improved, so did the ability to make food quicker and cheaper. Although faster and less expensive to make food, doesn’t mean healthier to eat. Because the American lifestyle has sped up so has the need for quicker meal times, thus we have fast food. Highly processed foods are high in fat, calories and sugar, but the taste is good. The American diet is rich in saturated fat, high sugar content, and it has resulted in poor nutrition. The easiest way to change your diet is to add more fruits and vegetables into your meals. Fruits and vegetables are so important to the body because they supply vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients. Fiber is also an important component of ones diet which comes from fruits and vegetables, beans, seed, brown rice, and whole grains. By cutting out processed foods, and hydrogenated oils you can improve your diet significantly. Make healthier food choices. Buy fresh seasonal produce and make all your meals and snacks at home. Eliminated sugary foods from your diet as much as possible. Don’t deprive yourself of your favorite foods. However eat them in smaller quantities to satiate your cravings. Malnutrition is one of the leaders in disease and death totals each year, that’s why it’s important to make healthier choices when t comes to food.

Hydrate- The United States is a free country where people have access to clean drinking water and yet 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Our bodies are made up of 70% of water. When we are dehydrated it triggers fatigue and chronic dehydration can ultimately lead to death. Pure clean water is the best water to drink because all contaminants have been removed. Water purifiers remove such contaminants as chlorine, lead, heavy metals, parasites, and bacteria. It is recommended to drink between 5-8 glasses of pure clean water a day depending upon perspiration, respiration and urination. Replace soda, and juice with water to kick start your way to better health.

Exercise- Physical activity is needed to keep the muscles in the body from atrophying, the joints, tendons and ligaments flexible and elastic, and keep circulation of blood and oxygen throughout the body. Inactivity is a huge risk factor for many diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and obesity. Moderate exercise between 10-30 minutes a day helps to control weight loss, reduce stress, improves circulation, and lessen the risk for blood, heart and arterial diseases. Doing some exercise is better than dong none. Walking, running, house cleaning, gardening, dancing and stretching are just some examples of everyday exercise. If you have maintained a sedentary lifestyle it is necessary to start any exercise regiment slow and build up. Start with 10 minutes and work your way up to 30 minutes a day. Remember to switch up your daily exercise to avoid boredom and monotony. Thirty minutes of exercise, 7 days a week is an ideal way to better your health.

Clean Air- Breathing in clean air is just as important to ones health as nutrition, exercising, and drinking pure water. Our lungs are an integral part of the circulatory system, which without we would not be living. Pollution is just one way that our air supply can be contaminated. In some cases indoor air can be more hazardous than outdoor air. Indoor air pollution is thought to be the cause of many circulatory diseases such as allergies, asthma, and autoimmune disease. Using an air purifier can help to reduce indoor air hazards such as mold spores, viruses, bacteria, chemical gases, fumes, odors and pollen. Plus, when the weather permits open up the windows and let fresh air in. It’s important to get outside more often. Air pollution is more concentrated in cities, so air quality is better in the suburbs or country. Breathing cleaner air keeps your lungs pumping for a longer life.

Lower Stress- Stress is a major factor, which impacts our health. Stress impairs the immune system, leaving the body susceptible to diminished health. Stress can arise in any area of our lives, i.e. Job, money, relationship, economy, etc. Stress can cause feelings of hopelessness, depression, or negative thoughts, which ultimately deteriorate your mood and behavior. It is important to change negative thoughts and bad moods by shifting ones energy. By looking at a situation from a different perspective or letting go of things you can’t change you can circumvent stress. Talking to a close friend can lift your stress. Surrounding yourself with a supportive group of friends that accept you and understand you is vital to your social well being.

Job unhappiness is a major stressor taking place in society today. With the inability to find jobs, people are accepting positions without determining whether it would be a job they would enjoy or excel at. Because we spend most of our time at our jobs it’s important to like what you do rather than do a job you hate with people you don’t like. Job satisfaction plays an important role in our mental well being.

Expressing love freely also is a great stress reducer. Love reduces stress hormones in the in the body which strengthens the immune system. Showing love, appreciation, and gratitude to your spouse, partner, friends and family, will bring you closer and diminish stress in your life. When you love it makes you happy, and happy people live longer and healthier.

Ultimately achieving better health is about making better choices throughout your life. Every choice we make in our lives has as future outcome. Making bad choices or choices for the wrong reasons can result in an outcome we don’t expect, leaving us angry or blameful. That’s why it’s important to feel good about your decisions no matter what the outcome. Choose healthy foods, exercise, clean water and air, good friends and an enjoyable job to eventually improve your health and live a longer life.

Massage in Bucharest

Recognize it! You’re busy! And so must be! That’s what life is like! But you want more than that, you want to do more for yourself and massage can help. Because massage makes more than a simple relaxation of the mind and body. It keeps your body in shape and gives you enough energy to make you enjoy a longer life better than you do it today.

Massage releases stress. At the moment, stress is a universal evil. Every time you are late, every time you avoid a car in traffic, every time you have trouble working, stress is doing his job. Each time adrenaline increases heart rate and cortisone levels and organs respond to the measure. You will be in a state of nerves and constant agitation.
When there is no release of stress, serious problems such as an upset stomach, hypertension, sleep disturbances, chest pain, or existing illness may worsen.

Some of the changes that may occur are: Anxiety, lack of concentration, depression, permanent fatigue, muscle or bone pain, sexual dysfunction, excessive sleep or insomnia

All these stress-related problems can be diminished and some can be totally eliminated by massage. The researchers concluded that a massage session can lower heart rate and blood pressure, relax your muscles and increase endorphin production. The massage also releases serotonin and dopamine and the result is a general relaxation, both physical and mental.
Our body care must be at the top of the priorities.
By adding the massage to your routine you will look much better and you will be much healthier and relaxed. Massage can improve your vitality and mood. Massage can prepare for a long and beautiful life.

Our masseuses personalize each massage session according to the needs of the individual.
Our massage parlors offer a variety of relaxation styles and techniques to help you. Apart from relaxing, massage can be a powerful ally in reducing pain, increasing energy levels, improving mental and physical performance

We recommend : HotAngels , VipZone , JadePalace , ThaiPassion

After a massage session, you will see how the mental prospects are enriched, the body allows easier handling, better pressure resistance, relaxation and mental alertness, calm and creative thinking.
When you have the impression or force yourself to stay straight, your body is not actually aligned properly. Not only does the posture look bad, but it forces some of the muscles to go muddy all day, while others become weaker. After a long time, the incorrect position may cause other drops. For example, internal organs press on what affects digestion, breathing ability is also diminished, which means that much less blood and oxygen reaches the brain and hence all sorts of other complications.

Massage allows you to return your body to the track. Allowing the body to make healthy and accurate movements is one of the greatest benefits of massage. Massage can relax and restore muscles injured by bad posture, allowing the body to position itself in a natural, painless position.
Apart from posture, there is also anxiety. One of the signs of anxiety and stress can also be heavy breathing. When the body begins to breathe too little and deeply instead of breathing at a natural rithm, it is impossible for one to relax. One reason may also be that the chest muscles and the abdomen get tightened and the air gets harder.

Massage plays an important role in learning the body how to relax and how to improve breathing. Respiratory problems such as allergies, sinuses, asthma or bronchitis are a group of conditions that can benefit from massage. In fact, massage can have a positive impact on respiratory function.

Many of the muscles in the front and back of the upper part of the body are breathing accessory. When these muscles are tight and shorten they can block normal breathing and interrupt effective breathing natural rithm. Massage techniques for stretching and relaxing these muscles improves breathing function and breathability. Massage leads to an opening of the chest as well as structural alignment and nerve dilatation that are required for optimal pulmonary function. A good way to treat respiratory problems with massage is the taping made in Swedish massage. When done on the back, along with vibrations, it can detach the mucus from the lungs and can clean the airways for better later function.

Massage not only relaxes muscles, but helps people become aware of daily stress levels. Once the body recognizes what really means relaxation, the mind can rest easily relax before the stress becomes cornice and harmful. This will help you enjoy a balanced life. Massage controls breathing, allows the mind to re-create relaxation before the occurrence of chronic and harmful stress and increases the level of energy.
